Dar es Salaam. The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police have announced the temporary closure of four major roads leading into the city centre to accommodate the arrival of heads of state attending a high-level summit scheduled for Saturday, 8 February 2025.

The summit, hosted by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, will bring together leaders from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC) to discuss the ongoing conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo between government forces and the M23 rebel group.

According to a statement issued on Friday, 7 February 2025, the affected roads include Nyerere Road from Julius Nyerere International Airport to the city centre.

Others include Sokoine Drive, Kivukoni Road, and Lithuli Street from the Gerezani traffic lights to Johari Rotana Hotel, Hyatt Regency, and the State House.

Additionally, Ohio Street from Kivukoni to Serena Hotel and Garden Avenue from Lithuli Street to Southern Sun Hotel will also be temporarily closed.

For security reasons, the police have also restricted the entry of motorcycles (bodaboda) and tricycles (bajaji) into the city centre, particularly on the mentioned roads, during the summit period.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, including Uhuru Street, Kawawa Road via Magomeni, Kigogo towards Temeke, Morogoro Road, Msimbazi Street, and Lumumba Street.

Those coming from Chanika are encouraged to use the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) corridor to connect to Mandela and Uhuru Roads.

"The police will make every effort to minimise inconvenience by swiftly closing and reopening the roads as needed to accommodate official convoys," the statement added.
