Dar es Salaam. Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) have scooped awards in 12 categories, outshining participants from other media houses who took part in the Excellence in Journalism in Tanzania (Ejat) awards in 2023.

The company heroes emerged victorious out of 19 categories whose journalists were nominated which is equivalent to 21 percent, becoming the most awarded media house in the prestigious awards.

Organized by the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT), this year’s event participated in 92 journalists from different media outlets who reached the final stage.

Mr Juma Issihaka, a Dar es Salaam based reporter, scooped three awards in the categories of investigative reporting, open category as well as good governance and accountability coverage.

Mr Baraka Loshilaa was awarded twice in the categories of health reporting as well as tax, levy and revenue reporting.

Ms Pamela Chilongola emerged victorious in the business, economy, and finance reporting category, while Mr George Helahela was announced winner in the online data journalism reporting.

For his part, Ms Helahela, said awarding journalists was a motivation to increase their focus on professional career development.

Other nominated MCL journalists held the second and third positions respectively.

They include Ms Imani Makongoro, Ms Josephine Christopher, Mr Sadam Sadick, Ms Elizabeth Edward, Ms Hellen Nachilongo, Mr Mussa Juma, Mr Julius Mnganga, Ms Tumaini Msowoya and Ms Clezencia Tryphone.
