More funds to be provided to Mloganzila Hospital

  • She told the hospital administration to ensure that funds were spent judicially.

Dar es Salaam. Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan has said more funds will be provided to Mloganzila Medical Centre to reduce the shortage of drugs.

She told the hospital administration to ensure that funds were spent judicially.

She was speaking yesterday during her visit to the new hospital.

She said the budget for medicines had been increased to Sh900 million in the financial year 2018/19 from Sh600 million the previous year.

She also directed Health minister Ummy Mwalimu to add Sh300 million to minimise the challenges.

“The problem is that when you are given money to buy drugs from the Medical Stores Department you don’t refund it. Make sure that the cash we add to you is for paying MSD bills so that the latter could bring more drugs and at least half the cash is repaid there,” she said.

She directed Mloganzila to open a drug store.

Earlier, Mloganzila vice chancellor for hospital services, Prof Said Abood, said they were obtaining only 24 per cent of the drugs needed from MSD and that they were purchasing other drugs through various agents.

Ms Mwalimu called upon members of the public to have health insurance coverage so that they could be provided with professional medical services.

Since it was inaugurated by President John Magufuli, there have been concerns that the hospital is not fully funded, despite having state-of-the-art infrastructure .
