NEMC teams up with Dar regional office for environmental cleanup

Dar es Salaam. The National Environment Management Council (NEMC) joined forces with the Dar es Salaam Regional Office on Saturday, January 11, 2025, for a major environmental cleanup campaign in Ilala District.

This initiative aimed to raise awareness and encourage residents of Dar es Salaam to keep their surroundings clean and well-maintained.

The cleanup also sought to foster community participation in environmental conservation.

The exercise was led by the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr Albert John Chalamila.

He was joined by members of the Security and Defense Committee, Ilala District Commissioner Edward Mpogolo, the City Director, and various officials from the regional and city administration.

Addressing the participants, Mr Chalamila emphasized the need to improve waste collection and management infrastructure in designated areas.

He highlighted that the initiative could help in recycling waste to produce compost and energy, creating job opportunities, enhancing cleanliness, and positioning Dar es Salaam as a prime destination for investment and tourism.

Several key stakeholders participated in the cleanup, including DAWASA, TANESCO, and local business owners from Ilala District, all united in their commitment to a cleaner, greener city.
