Dar es Salaam. The newly appointed British High Commissioner to Tanzania, Marianne Young, has presented her credentials to President Samia Suluhu Hassan in a formal ceremony held today, August 13, at State House, Dar es Salaam.

This event marks the beginning of Young’s tenure as the British representative to Tanzania.

Young arrives with a robust background in international diplomacy, having served as Deputy Ambassador in Ankara, Turkey, from 2020 to 2024. 

Her extensive career with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) includes notable positions such as British High Commissioner to Namibia, Deputy High Commissioner to Lesotho and Swaziland, and Head of the External Political Section at the British High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa.

In a statement following the ceremony, Young expressed her enthusiasm for her new role: “I am pleased to have received my accreditation from Her Excellency President Samia Suluhu Hassan today. The UK enjoys strong and long-standing relations with Tanzania. As the new British High Commissioner, I am committed to deepening our partnership to achieve more prosperous and secure futures for both our countries.”

With offices in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma, the High Commission focusses on supporting sustainable development, education, trade, and security initiatives across the region.
