UK appoints new High Commissioner to Tanzania

Dar es Salaam. The United Kingdom has announced the appointment of Mrs Marianne Young as the new British High Commissioner to the United Republic of Tanzania, succeeding Mr David Concar, who will be assuming another diplomatic post.

In a statement issued on Wednesday May 15, Mrs Young is set to assume her role in August 2024, bringing with her a wealth of experience.

Prior to this appointment, she served as Britain's deputy ambassador to Turkey since 2020 to date.

With a background in journalism, Mrs Young's career journey began at The Times Newspaper.

She has a notable history of service in Africa, having held various positions in different countries including the Great Lakes Region.

From 2007 to 2011, Mrs Young served as the head of the external political section and Deputy High Commissioner for the Kingdoms of Lesotho and Eswatini.

Following this, she was appointed as the British envoy to Namibia.

In 2015, Mrs Young transitioned to Europe, where she served in several capacities, including Deputy Director in the Europe Directorate focusing on EU exit matters.

Her diverse experience and diplomatic acumen make her well-equipped to foster and strengthen the relationship between the United Kingdom and Tanzania.
