Dar es Salaam. Defending champions Young Africans (Yanga) continued their impressive run in the ongoing Mainland Tanzania Premier League with a resounding 4-0 victory over Fountain Gate FC at the Tanzanite Kwaraa Stadium in Manyara today, April 21, 2025.
Yanga’s attacking trio of Clement Mzize, Stephane Aziz Ki, and Clatous Chama put on a dazzling display, underlining the team’s title credentials as the season enters its final stretch.
It was Clement Mzize who broke the deadlock in the 38th minute after capitalizing on a costly mistake by Fountain Gate’s goalkeeper, John Noble. A poor clearance by Noble fell straight to the in-form striker, who made no mistake in calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net.
The young striker returned to the scoresheet in the 69th minute, doubling his tally and Yanga’s lead to three goals. This time, the opportunity was beautifully crafted by Jonathan Ikangalombo, whose incisive pass allowed Mzize to fire home with composure.
The brace took Mzize’s goal tally to 13 for the season, making him the current leader in the Golden Boot race. He now sits ahead of Simba SC’s Jean Ahoua and his Yanga teammate Prince Dube, who each have 12 goals.
Earlier in the match, Yanga had already extended their lead through Stephane Aziz Ki in the 43rd minute. Noble was again at fault, attempting to clear the ball near the edge of the danger zone, only to pass it directly to Aziz Ki. The Ivorian midfielder took full advantage of the error, slotting in his eighth goal of the campaign.
Yanga’s fourth and final goal came in the 89th minute via a moment of brilliance from Clatous Chama. After Mtenje Albano fouled Mzize just outside the penalty box, referee Nassoro Mwinchui awarded a free kick. Chama stepped up and curled a stunning effort past the wall and goalkeeper, sealing an emphatic win for the reigning champions.
The result further solidifies Yanga’s dominance in the league, taking their tally to 70 points from 26 matches. The gap between them and second-placed Simba SC, who have 57 points from 22 matches, continues to widen. Azam FC remain third with 54 points after playing 27 matches.
With the title race heating up, Yanga’s form and firepower remain unmatched, especially with players like Mzize, Aziz Ki, and Chama hitting peak performance at a crucial time.
