Oman assures Tanzania of commitment to industrial growth

Dar es Salaam. The King of Oman, Sayyid Al Said, has assured Tanzania of his country’s commitment to investing in industries, oil and gas as well as adding value to minerals being extracted in the country.

The commitment will also cover the energy sector, increased investments in Bagamoyo as well as help to grow Tanzania’s economy fast.

The message was delivered on Wednesday, October 18, by Oman’s minister of Oil and Gas, Dr Mohammed Al Rumhy, to President John Magufuli at State House in Dar es Salaam.

Dr Rumhy is leading an Omani delegation consisting of minister of Investment Salem Ben Nasser Al Imaely, deputy minister of Tourism   Maitha Saif Majid.

The delegation arrived in Dar es Salaam port on Tuesday, October 16, in a ship christened ‘Fulk Al Salamah’ normally used by the royal family.

According to a statement from the Directorate of Presidential Communication, Dr Rumhy said the trip was aimed at strengthening the Tanzania-Oman relationship, especially on economic growth.

He said the two countries are sharing experience on the trade of oil and gas and that Oman will construct a state-of-the-art factory in Bagamoyo District, Coast Region to produce fertilizer.

“We want to cooperate with Tanzania in the industrial sector by building big industries and adding value to the minerals being extracted here (in Tanzania),” he said.

For his part, President Magufuli apart from thanking the royal government for the commitment, pledged continued cooperation.

The President said Tanzania was ready for investment, saying it was determined to offer all the necessary support to in the projects.

“Pass my message to the King of Oman that I’m happy to host you in Tanzania and we will ensure the relationship goes further in improving social services and bringing development to the people,” he said.

The Head of State asked the government of Oman to stregnthen its relationship with Tanzania on tourism, fishing and aviation sectors as well as construction of meat processing industries, and exchange programmes for experts in Kiswahili and Arabic languages.

He also thanked the Omani government for the construction of 100 water wells across the country and asked for more investments in the new capital city, Dodoma.

In attendance during the talks were minister of Energy, Dr Medard Kalemani, and deputy minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr Susan Kolimba.
