Dar es Salaam.Police on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 descended upon and searched the headquarters of the Alliance for Change and Transparency-Wazalendo  political party (ACT-Wazalendo) which are located in the Kijitonyama area of Dar es Salaam city.

They conducted the search shortly after the party leader, Zitto Kabwe, had his mobile phone confiscated by the police as part of ongoing investigations into allegations of sedition he is face with.

Speaking to The Citizen in a telephone interview, party’s secretary for ideology, publicity and public communications, Mr Ado Shaibu, said four police officers arrived at the party’s offices at around 12PM – and ordered party members who were at the offices to remain within the compound until directed otherwise.

“They wanted to start searching, but we stopped them, and told them to contact the party’s secretary-general who has the mandate to give them permission to conduct the exercise,” Mr Shaibu said.

“We were only allowed to move within the compound, as nobody was allowed to move beyond the main gate,” he added.

When the party’s secretary-general, Ms Doroth Semu, arrived on the scene, the police started the search – finally leaving the place with some materials, including electronic devices, said Mr Shaibu.

Some of devices, which were taken by the police included flash discs.
