Police refute claims of woman in minister’s car died
Police in Dodoma has refuted claims that there was a woman who was a passengers in the car which was being driven by deputy minister Dr Festo Dugange at the time of the accident.
In a statement released by Dodoma Regional Police Commander Martin Otieno, the Force said there had been misleading reports in the social media that indicated that a certain unknown woman was riding with the minister and that the accident also involved a government vehicle.
According to ACP Otieno, the rumours also claimed that the woman died on the spot after the accident which left Dr Dugange with a broken thumb among other injuries forcing him to be hospitalized at the Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma.
“These allegations are not true, on April 26, an accident occurred in Dodoma around St Peter Clever involving a Toyota Land Cruiser which was being driven by deputy minister of state in the President’s Office, Regional Administration, and Local Government (PO-Ralg), Dr Festo Dugange,” reads the statement.
The statement maintains that Dr Dugange was the only person in the car which overturned after it swerved to avoid knocking a motorcyclist who crossed the road without taking any precautions.
He called on the general public to refrain from disseminating information that they have not verified, waring that police will not hesitate to take action against such acts.
Yesterday, Vice President Philip Mpango paid Dr Dugange who is confined to a hospital bed at the Benjamin Mkapa Hospital.
