President Samia commissions 236 officers at Tanzania Military Academy

Arusha. President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Thursday, November 28, 2024, commissioned 236 officer cadets and conferred Bachelor of Military Science (BMS) Degree to 75 others.

President Hassan doubles as the Commander-in-Chief of armed forces honoured the military officials at the Tanzania Military Academy (TMA) located in Monduli, Arusha Region.

Commissioned cadet officers including 196 men and 40 women belong to the 05/21 and 71/23 cohorts.

They have now officially joined the ranks of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF).

Before the commissioning ceremony, President Samia inspected a parade conducted by the officer cadets,led by TMA Commandant Brigadier General Jackson Jairos Mwaseba and supervised by Acting Chief Instructor Colonel Ally Mohamed Ninga.

The President also presented awards to the top-performing cadets.

In her address at the ceremony, President Samia highlighted the significance of the training in preparing the military to effectively carry out its responsibilities in national defense, border security, and overall public safety.

"I commend the academy leadership for ensuring the training has been carried out to such a high standard, which is vital to the future of our collective security," said President Hassan.

Earlier, the Minister of Defence and National Service Dr Stergomena Tax emphasized that military science training is crucial for both the armed forces and the nation, particularly in countering border threats.

“The importance of this training is reflected in the competence it instills in our military, enabling it to carry out operations efficiently,” she said.

“It also equips officers with ethical standards, discipline, and skills. They also become committed to guiding their units with patriotism,” added Dr Tax.

Dr Tax further stated that the training is essential for addressing security challenges at the borders, fostering a capable military led by devoted leaders, and contributing to building a robust army and a prosperous, secure nation.

TMA Commandant Brigadier General Mwaseba urged graduates to apply their training effectively in service to the nation, acknowledging the significant investment the government has made in their education.
