Dar es Salaam. Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, joined other leaders in sharing messages of unity, love and gratitude as Tanzanians united the rest of the world in celebrating Christmas.

Christian believers celebrate Christmas to mark the birth of their Lord Jesus Christ over 2,000 years ago.

In her message posted on her X formerly Twitter page, President Hassan called on Tanzanians to celebrate joyously with their loved ones.

"I wish you all a joyous Christmas celebration. Let us come together with family, relatives, and friends to celebrate with happiness and love," she wrote.

The President also urged citizens to draw inspiration from the story of Jesus Christ's birth.

"The story of Jesus Christ's birth should inspire us to reflect on new beginnings in our daily duties, love for our neighbours and fellow citizens, patriotism for our nation, living truthfully, humility in serving others when given the opportunity, and gratitude. Let us also unite in praying for our country to continue enjoying peace, unity, and stability," she added.

Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi used his Christmas message to remind Tanzanians of the importance of unity and family values.

"This is the right time and our collective duty to emphasise the importance of strengthening brotherhood, peace, stability and solidarity among us. Merry Christmas, enjoy your holidays and may you receive abundant blessings," he said.

Finance Minister, Mwigulu Nchemba, joined fellow Tanzanians in celebrating the season, urging citizens to use the holiday as an opportunity for sharing and compassion.

"Merry Christmas to you all. Let us celebrate with peace and tranquility, share what we have, and extend support to those in need," he said.

Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, expressed gratitude for the year’s blessings while urging vigilance during celebrations.

"As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, we thank God for keeping us safe and bringing us to the end of this year. I urge revellers and organisers of end-of-year events to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel and local leaders to deny evildoers an opportunity to spoil our celebratory mood," he said.

Burkina Faso's President Ibrahim Traoré highlighted the resilience of his people during Christmas celebrations.

"I have a pious thought for all internally displaced persons who have not yet returned to their homes. I pay tribute to all the fighting forces on the front lines working for the reconquest of our territory. Their sacrifices assure us of the imminent end of the war against terrorism," he said.

President Traoré also expressed hope for peace, stability, and economic prosperity for Burkina Faso in the coming year.

As Tanzanians gather with loved ones to celebrate Christmas, these messages from leaders serve as a reminder of the importance of unity, compassion, and hope in this festive season.
