Samia appoints Sefue, Prof Assad for tax reforms commission

Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed former Chief Secretary, Ambassador Ombeni Sefue, as the chairman of the Presidential Commission on Tax Reforms.
The commission members were announced on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, tasked with evaluating and advising on tax issues.
On July 29, 2024, during the 15th meeting of the Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC), President Hassan announced the government's resolve to form a team charged with the evaluation and advisory on tax matters in the country.
“The president formed the commission to evaluate and advise on tax reforms,” reads part of a press statement signed by the acting director of the presidential communications, Ms Sharifa Nyanga.
Other committee members include former Bank of Tanzania (BoT) governor, Prof Florens Luoga; the ex-Controller and Auditor General (CAG), Prof Mussa Assad, the commissioner for external finance at the Ministry of Finance, who is also former Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) commissioner general, Mr Rished Bade; as well as the former PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) Tanzania chief executive officer, Mr Leonard Mususa.
Others are the tax expert and former head of the tax advisory department at PwC, Mr David Tarimo, the Zanzibar University (ZU) senior lecturer Aboubakar Mohamed Aboubakar; the legal advisor, Ambassador Mwanaidi Maajar, and the former permanent secretary, Ambassador Maimuna Tarishi.
