Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed deep sorrow over the killing of a member of the opposition party, Chadema Mr Mohamed Ali Kibao.

Writing on her X (formerly Twitter) page, she extended her condolences to Chadema, Mr Kibao’s family, and his relatives and friends.

President Hassan directed investigative authorities to provide a detailed report on this tragic incident and similar cases as soon as possible. She affirmed that Tanzania is a democratic nation where every citizen has the right to live, and her government will not tolerate such brutal acts.

The President’s X post came after her ruling CCM party also offered its condolences to Chadema over the death of their secretariat member, Mr Kibao, and called on the Police Force to thoroughly investigate the incident.

A member of the Chadema’s secretariat, Kibao’s body, was found at the Ununio Tegeta area of Dar es Salaam. It was then taken to the Mwanyamala Referral Hospital morgue for preservation.

Kibao is reported to have been abducted on the evening of Friday, September 6, 2024, from a bus operated by Tashrif, which was traveling from Dar es Salaam to Tanga. He was removed from the vehicle by unidentified individuals whose identities and origins remain unknown.

On Sunday, September 8, 2024, during a public meeting at the Getini field in Mirerani, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, CCM’s Secretary for Ideology, Propaganda and Training, Amos Makalla, conveyed his condolences to Chadema and Kibao’s family.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Chadema for the loss of one of their secretariat members. I have been following the situation closely. When it comes to matters of humanity, political differences are set aside,” Makalla stated. “I offer my sympathies for this heavy loss and urge the Police Force to fulfill their duty by continuing the investigation so we can receive a full report. As political parties, we are all human, and humanity must come first. That is why, on behalf of CCM, I offer my condolences with great respect.”

The autopsy on Kibao’s body has been completed, and it has been handed over to the family for burial arrangements, scheduled for tomorrow at 1:00 PM in Tanga. The results of the autopsy are expected to be released on Monday.
