Dar es Salaam. Health stakeholders are set to gather for a three-day conference starting today, to discuss policy recommendations on rehabilitation health services.

The forum in Dar es Salaam, will also examine the critical role of rehabilitation health in enhancing the national healthcare system and chat on strategies to increase access to such services in rural areas.

Rehabilitation health services are essential in helping patients recover through physical therapy, medical treatment, and psychological support, allowing them to regain their quality of life.

The executive director of Rehab Health, the organisation behind the event, Ms Remla Shirima, noted that the conference will bring together healthcare providers, policymakers, and other partners, including representatives from the police force.

"The event, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, will cover several key topics, including expanding rehabilitation services and ensuring they reach primary healthcare levels across the country," Ms Shirima said.

The conference, themed "Advancing the rehabilitation agenda to strengthen national health systems," will be officially opened by Health Minister Jenister Mhagama, Ms Shirima said, stressing the importance of rehabilitation health in building a robust healthcare system.

The director of medical services at the Ministry of Health, Dr Hamad Nyembea, said rehabilitation services play a significant role in supporting individuals with injuries or chronic conditions, helping them to recover and regain their happiness.

"The government is committed to enhancing healthcare services, with rehabilitation health as a key component. It offers vital support through physiotherapy, medical treatment, and psychological care," said Dr Nyembea.

He noted that rehabilitation services are not a luxury but a necessity, with the government aiming to ensure they are available nationwide without barriers.

An officer from the road safety unit, Mr Deus Sokoni, said the conference will also be an opportunity to raise public awareness about the rights and responsibilities of road users, many of whom are affected by accidents that lead to serious injuries and loss of limbs.
