  • The initiative, agreed upon by both governments, aims to foster mutual understanding and appreciation of each other's cultures.

Dar es Salaam. Deputy minister for Culture, Arts and Sports Hamisi Mwinjuma has announced a new initiative to exchange cultural and tourism resources with China during a celebration of the Chinese New Year in Dar es Salaam.

This joint effort aims to promote understanding and collaboration between the two nations.

Mr Mwinjuma, speaking at the event hosted by Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Ms Chen Mingjian, highlighted the existing cooperation between Tanzania and China across various sectors.

He emphasised the value of this new initiative, stating: "The idea is to exchange knowledge and artistic capabilities, and the process has already begun to agree to exchange materials and expertise in the tourism sector to promote our culture."

The ceremony showcased this exchange firsthand, featuring both Chinese and Tanzanian cultural performances.

Mwinjuma expressed optimism for the future, saying: "I think we will have a good year that will bring about many exchanges and help strengthen our friendship."

Ambassador Mingjian echoed this sentiment, emphasising the long-standing relationship between the two countries and the desire to further uplift citizens economically.

"You have seen in these ceremonies Chinese and Tanzanian dances being performed, this is to continue and maintain our relationships, and we want these opportunities to be used by our people to build themselves economically," she said.

While diplomatic achievements exist, both officials acknowledged the potential for deeper collaboration, particularly in the areas of culture and tourism.

This initiative marks a significant step towards achieving that goal.
