Tanzania: Government sets aside Sh900 billion for renovation of classrooms

Dar es Salaam. The government plans to use Sh900 billion from the 2019/2020 fiscal year to construct and renovate classrooms across the country.
The deputy minister of State in the President's Office (Regional Administration and Local Government Mr Mwita Waitara said in parliament that the shortage of classrooms was still a challenge in most schools.
Mr Waitara said the solution lies in increasing the budget for the education sector.
He made the remarks during the question and answer session when responding to Ms Susan Lyimo (Special seat MP-Chadema) who sought to know government’s plans and strategies in ensuring the classrooms’ problems come to an end.
In response, the deputy minister said, “Already the government has ordered district directors and education officers in respective areas to provide details on the classrooms deficit.”
