The latest rankings, published in the Henley Passport Index Report on Sunday, January 12, show that Tanzania ranks 10th among African nations, trailing behind Seychelles, Mauritius, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Malawi, and Kenya.
Seychelles, which holds the 25th position globally, tops the list of African countries in the annual rankings, produced in cooperation with the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
At the global level, Singapore has the strongest passport, granting holders visa-free access to 195 countries.
It is followed closely by Japan, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, and Spain, all of which allow access to 192 countries without requiring a visa.
On the other end of the spectrum, Afghanistan has the weakest passport, with holders able to visit only 26 countries visa-free.
It is ranked just above Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan, and Somalia.
The Henley Passport Index ranks a total of 199 passports and 227 travel destinations.
It is widely regarded as the standard reference tool for assessing global mobility and passport strength.
Nearly a decade ago, East African Community (EAC) countries introduced new chip-embedded passports to combat the rising issues of forgery and impersonation.
Tanzania, along with its EAC counterparts, has relied on this new passport system to bolster the strength of its travel document and improve its international standing.
