Unguja. CCM has nominated Mr Kh amis Yussuf Mussaas its candidate for the Kwahani Constituency in the upcoming by-election slated for June 8, 2024.

The decision was made by the Central Committee of the National Executive Committee, chaired by Vice Chairman of CCM and President of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Mwinyi, during a special session held at CCM Headquarters in Kisiwandui, Zanzibar, on Sunday, May 19.

The nomination follows the passing of former MP Mr. Ahmada Yahya Shaa on April 8, 2024. Additionally, the Central Committee appointed Ms. Suzan Peter Kunambi as the Secretary General of the Tanzania Women's Union (UWT), as announced by publicity secretary Amos Makala.

The nomination comes a few days after the opposition party, Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT Wazalendo), declared its decision to abstain from participating in the Kwahani Constituency by-election.

ACT Wazalendo cited concerns over the legitimacy of the current National Electoral Commissioners to oversee the upcoming by-election and subsequent electoral processes.

They called for the resignation of the current Electoral Commission members, asserting that their legitimacy has been compromised.

The party advocated for the appointment of new Commissioners and a fresh Secretariat for the Electoral Commission.

This decision introduced a significant dynamic into the political landscape, raising questions about the integrity and credibility of the electoral process in Tanzania.
