Dar es Salaam. Mara vocation training center has designed a cheap welding machine that uses salt and water to operate and it targets youth entrepreneurs.

The machine will benefit craftsmen, graduates of vocational training colleges who are not able to buy new machines.

According to innovator Mr Elly Maduhu, from Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA), graduate’s students can make their own machines by using the materials that are easily found such as scrap metals, and vehicle batteries.

“This idea come to my mind this year, and I started working on it in May. My purpose is to help our graduate students who are scholars in welding to create this machine at an affordable price while waiting to buy the big one,” he said.

Speaking to The Citizen during the on-going 42nd Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), he said that the welding machine is usually sold at around Sh500, 000 and above, but the one he has made will cost Sh50,000 to make. This he says, will enable many to employ themselves right after graduation.
