Tanzania to get Kiwira Coal Mine investor this year

Dodoma. The government has pledged to find a strategic investor who will revive coal mining at Kiwira Coal Mine during the financial year 2018/19, the Parliament heard on Thursday.

But speaking in Parliament on Thursday, June 28, 2018, the Deputy Minister for Minerals, Mr Stanslaus Nyongo said the government was working hard to find an investor for the project, noting that soon, the project will become operational.
"The government, through the Ministry of Minerals in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, are working hard to get a strategic investor and so far, a number of them have shown interest in the project. This year, we will get one," he said.
Mr Nyongo was responding to a question from Ms Sophia Mwakagenda (Special Seats - Chadema) who wanted to know when will the government reopen the project that was halted several years ago.
