Dodoma. Police have assured citizens of heightened security measures during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, emphasising collaboration with local communities and religious leaders to ensure a peaceful festive season.

Police spokesperson David Misime said in a statement on Tuesday, December 24, that it was important to collectively maintain safety during the year-end period.

“The Police Force has made comprehensive arrangements to enhance safety during the Christmas and New Year celebrations in collaboration with the public, religious leaders, committees responsible for places of worship, and local government leaders to ensure that everyone celebrates peacefully and harmoniously,” the statement read.

Members of the public were urged to remain vigilant and act responsibly to avoid incidents that could compromise safety and security.

“Let us remember that safety begins with each one of us, by avoiding actions that could jeopardise the safety of others, as well as the security of your belongings and family,” Mr Misime stated.

Specific warnings were issued against excessive alcohol consumption, leaving homes unattended, and neglecting children’s supervision.

“We must avoid that,” he added.

The statement also addressed ongoing efforts to prevent road accidents, with the police continuing to apprehend those violating traffic laws while conducting public awareness campaigns.

Mr Misime called on citizens to support the initiatives by reporting reckless behaviour.

“The Police call on every individual to support these efforts by providing timely information whenever they see someone engaging in reckless behaviour or activities that endanger lives on the roads,” he said.

Noting the tragic consequences of some recent road accidents, Mr Misime stressed the need for proactive action to save lives.

“Some of the tragic accidents reported show that, had timely warnings been given, many families would not have suffered such immense loss,” he said.

The Police also encouraged continued collaboration within families, communities, and religious groups to promote harmony and ensure a safe festive period.

The statement also reminded all citizens to adhere to God’s guidance and strengthen collective efforts, including fostering responsible parenting practices.
