Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan called on newly appointed Tanzanian leaders to combine professionalism with common sense in their roles, aiming to enhance efficiency in public service.

The President issued this directive during a swearing-in ceremony held at the Dar es Salaam State House on Thursday when she swore-in Prof Palamagamba Kabudi as Minister of Constitution and Legal Affairs; Mr William Lukuvi as Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Coordination, and Parliamentary Affairs) and Ms Jenista Mhagama as Minister of Health.

Also sworn in were Dr Pindi Chana as Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism and Ms Angellah Kairuki as the President’s Advisor

During the event, Mr Hamza Johari was sworn in as Attorney General and Samwel Maneno as Deputy Attorney General while Dr Ally Possi was sworn-in as the Solicitor General whereas Mr Ismail Rumatila, Mr Atupele Mwambene, Mr Abdul Mhinte, and Mr Methusela Ntonda took the oath of duty as Deputy Permanent Secretaries.

Thursday’s event at the State also saw Mr Crispin Chalamila taking an oath as Director General of the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB), Mr Moremi Marwa as Director General of the Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTCL) and Dr Irene Isaka as Director General of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

In her address, President Hassan emphasized the importance of integrating common sense with professional conduct to achieve greater efficiency in their roles.

"In doing your work, there is professionalism and use of common sense.

Whenever you feel common sense can be well utilized, make better use of it," she said.

The President also underscored the need for adherence to oaths and ethical standards in the execution of their duties, indicating that the recent appointments are part of normal governance adjustments.

Vice President Philip Mpango reminded the appointees of the significant trust placed in them, urging them to repay this trust through diligence and collaboration with their colleagues.

Chief Justice Prof Ibrahim Juma highlighted that while Africa's policies and laws are of high quality, challenges often lie in their implementation due to varying attitudes.

He encouraged the new leaders to uphold boldness and integrity.

Deputy National Assembly Speaker Mussa Azan Zungu said that confidence, integrity, and discipline were crucial for effective public service.
