Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued a 10-day weather forecast starting today, Sunday, June 1, 2025, warning of rainfall and thunderstorms expected in several parts of the country.

According to the forecast, the Lake Victoria Zone including Kagera, Geita, Shinyanga, Mwanza, Simiyu, and Mara should brace for wet conditions.

“Rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in some areas, particularly around the Lake Zone,” TMA said in a statement released through its official website.

The northeastern highlands, covering Arusha, Manyara, and Kilimanjaro regions, are also forecasted to receive light rain in a few areas. Meanwhile, the northern coast which includes Tanga, northern Morogoro, Coast Region, Dar es Salaam, and the islands of Unguja and Pemba—is likely to experience strong winds and scattered showers.

“In these coastal regions, we expect intervals of strong winds and isolated rainfall events,” the statement noted.

Western regions such as Kigoma, Katavi, and Tabora will see occasional rain and thunderstorms in isolated locations. In contrast, dry weather is expected to persist in central regions like Dodoma and Singida. The southwestern highlands Rukwa, Songwe, Mbeya, Njombe, and Iringa will also remain mostly dry.

“Much of the southern zone, including Ruvuma and the southern parts of Morogoro, is expected to continue experiencing dry conditions,” the Authority said.

For the southern coast, which includes Mtwara and Lindi, TMA forecasted “periods of strong winds and rainfall in some areas.”

In its night-time outlook beginning at 9:00 pm today, TMA said that parts of Kagera and Mara will have “partly cloudy skies with rain and thunderstorms,” along with some sunny intervals.

Regions such as Lindi, Mtwara, Unguja and Pemba islands, Dar es Salaam, Tanga, and Coast Region are expected to experience “light rain in a few areas, with partly cloudy conditions and sunshine during some periods.”

The rest of the country including Geita, Mwanza, Shinyanga, Simiyu, Morogoro, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Manyara, Kigoma, Tabora, Singida, Dodoma, Katavi, Ruvuma, Songwe, Rukwa, Songea, and Mbeya—will have partly cloudy conditions with sunny spells.

TMA also advised that coastal winds are expected to blow from the south at speeds of up to 30 kilometers per hour.

“Marine conditions will be generally partly cloudy, but mariners are advised to remain cautious,” it added.
