Tragedy in Morogoro as man dies on bus, girl found in pond

Morogoro. The Morogoro Regional Police Force has confirmed the death of a male passenger who was travelling from Mwanza to Dar es Salaam aboard an Ally’s bus.

The deceased, identified as Godfrey David Mbaga (estimated age 25-30), a resident of Mwanza, was on bus registration number T.433 EBG, driven by Emanuel Kayanda when he fell ill mid-journey.

“Upon reaching Mikese, the passenger started feeling unwell and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he did not recover and was pronounced dead,” the police reported.

His body is currently preserved at the Morogoro Regional Referral Hospital mortuary, awaiting identification and further investigation.

The police have called upon his relatives and friends to come forward for identification and burial arrangements.

Meanwhile, in another tragic incident, the body of a 10-year-old girl, identified as Ester Banzi, a fifth-grade student at Juhudi Primary School, was discovered floating in a water pond in the Cape Town area, Lukobe ward, Morogoro Municipality, on the morning of February 24, 2025.

Preliminary reports indicate that the girl was reported missing on February 23, 2025, at Kihonda Police Station, prompting search efforts that led to the discovery of her body.

“We are conducting investigations to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding her death,” said Regional Police Commander Alex Mkama, urging parents and guardians to remain calm as authorities continue their probe.

The body of the child has also been preserved at the Morogoro Regional Referral Hospital mortuary, while investigations are ongoing.

The police have called on the public to cooperate by providing any information that may help establish the cause of the child’s death.

The Morogoro Regional Police have appealed to anyone who may know the deceased bus passenger to come forward and assist in identifying and claiming the body.

Similarly, authorities have urged witnesses or individuals with relevant information to report to the police to aid in the investigation of Ester Banzi’s death.
