Sengerema District Commissioner Senyi Nganga confirmed the incidents, stating that Petro, from Kasenyi Ward, was attacked at around 5 p.m. on December 25 while bathing in the lake.
The following day, Kamuhanda, from Buhama Ward, Buchosa District, was killed at approximately 2 p.m. near a fishing camp in Mchangani while preparing to gather food for his family.
“These tragic events have deeply saddened the community. Residents are being urged to take extra precautions as crocodiles have been frequently spotted in search of food,” said DC Nganga, emphasising the need to avoid bathing in the lake.
While the bodies of the victims have not been recovered, a search continues.
Resident Amos John said the fishing community has been increasingly affected by crocodile attacks and stressed the need for ongoing public education on safety measures.
