Waitara questions the ‘misuse’ of Luck Vincent donations

Ukonga MP Mr Mwita Waitara

What you need to know:

  • Mr Waitara asked the chair's guidance over the reports that the donations have been diverted from the families and were partly paid as allowances to the medical team that handled the casualties and a substantial amount would go for renovating a public hospital.

  • "We made our contributions in here and categorically specified that they should be channeled to the families of the victims and not otherwise. Now we hear reports in the media that the government is using the funds for other purposes," he said.

Dodoma. Ukonga MP Mr Mwita Waitara on Monday questioned the use of funds donated to families of those who died in a car crash that involved Lucky Vincent Primary school bus.

Mr Waitara asked the chair's guidance over the reports that the donations have been diverted from the families and were partly paid as allowances to the medical team that handled the casualties and a substantial amount would go for renovating a public hospital.

"We made our contributions in here and categorically specified that they should be channeled to the families of the victims and not otherwise. Now we hear reports in the media that the government is using the funds for other purposes," he said.

Following the tragic accident which killed 32 pupils, two teachers and a driver, the National Assembly donated Sh100 million. Responding to the request, the House Chairperson Mr Andrew Chenge said there was no need to politicize the matter.

"The government is here. I believe we will soon receive the right feedback so that next time disaster strikes, we will be willing to donate again," he said adding, "I cannot rule further on the matter because we're not guided by media reports."
