Regina asks women to vote for Mr Lowassa in oct poll

Regina Lowassa a wife of the former Prime Minister and presidential candidate on Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo.

What you need to know:

Ms Lowassa said during a meeting with women from across the city on Sunday that Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), in which her husband served for a long time, had failed his quest for adequately serving Tanzanians.

Arusha. The wife of Mr Edward Lowassa, the former Prime Minister and presidential candidate on Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) ticket, Regina, has pleaded with women countrywide to vote for her husband and opposition leaders, saying they know exactly where to raise the much-needed school fees for their children.

Ms Lowassa said during a meeting with women from across the city on Sunday that Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), in which her husband served for a long time, had failed his quest for adequately serving Tanzanians.

She said Tanzanians were facing a number of challenges which could not be resolved with CCM still in power, as ridding the country of abject poverty was not in the vocabulary of the ruling party which, she said, was also ignorant of appropriate approaches required for taking the country to the next level.

“The list of challenges the country is facing is long,” she noted, explaining that her husband could not resolve all of them then, for the ruling party was one of the major stumbling blocs.

She said leaders of the Coalition of the Defenders of the People’s Constitution, Mr Lowassa included, were capable of forging development, for they knew Tanzanians did not deserve to languish in poverty, given the abundant natural resources that are at their disposal.

Outgoing Arusha Urban Member of Parliament Godbless Lema said women in the city could not service loans they secured from different financial institutions as a result of auxiliary police chasing them away wherever they attempted to operate their productive activities.

“The women before you are hardworking entrepreneurs, all what they need is the right environment for them to carry out their petty trade,” said Lema, asking the coalition’s government, if elected, to consider women’s rights as was the case with those of other citizens.

Special Seats candidate on the Chadema ticket Joyce Mukya assured Ms Lowassa that Arusha women, who had been longing for change for ages now, were prepared to vote for candidates from the coalition known as Ukawa in its Kiswahili acronym on October 25, this year.
