Tunduru. President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the CCM presidential candidate, has pledged to intensify efforts to strengthen agriculture, improve social services and safeguard citizens from growing threats posed by wildlife incursions.

Addressing a rally in Nakapanya, Tunduru North, yesterday, President Hassan said her administration would prioritise the cultivation of key cash crops such as cashew and sesame, alongside expanding health and education infrastructure.

“Agriculture is a critical sector for our economy, and we will continue to put strategies in place to boost the production of commercial crops like cashews and sesame to benefit farmers and increase national income. Additionally, we will continue to provide fertiliser subsidies to farmers,” she said.

The Head of State added that the government would sustain subsidies, loans and modern farming equipment to enhance productivity in both commercial and food crops.

She also stressed the importance of tackling persistent challenges such as high production costs and access to markets.

On social services, President Hassan cited completed and ongoing projects in education and health, including new schools, upgraded facilities, and expanded access to essential medicines.

She also addressed the escalating problem of wildlife attacks on communities, noting that measures such as constructing protective barriers and deploying more preventive strategies would be prioritised.

“We will not leave our citizens exposed. We will strengthen security measures and ensure wildlife does not invade people’s farms or settlements. This is part of our commitment to protecting citizens and improving lives,” she stressed.

President Hassan reiterated that development requires collective effort, pledging continued government–citizen cooperation to ensure prosperity.

“Development does not come by chance, but through collective effort. We will ensure that all citizens benefit from improved services, agriculture thrives, and every Tanzanian enjoys the prosperity of our nation,” she said.

Support from local leaders

CCM parliamentary candidate for Tunduru North, Sikudhani Chikambo, highlighted the constituency’s progress, citing more than 100 projects worth Sh7.1 billion completed in the past five years. These include fertiliser subsidies that have boosted cashew farming, and infrastructure developments in both health and education.

She pointed to 42 secondary school projects, including new classrooms, dormitories and schools in Makambale, Tinginya and Majimaji. In Nakapanya, a new maternity and surgical wing has been completed at a cost of Sh780 million, improving maternal and emergency care services.

Road infrastructure was also noted, with Sh193 million invested in the Mkoela–Tinginya road, which has eased transport challenges. However, Chikambo urged the government to accelerate completion of major road links connecting Ruvuma and Lindi to support trade and year-round access.

“We are deeply grateful, our beloved President, for all these projects that have been implemented. Many more projects and funds have come to our constituency, and while I cannot list them all, the figures speak for themselves,” she said.

CCM leadership endorsements

CCM Ruvuma regional chairperson Odo Mwisho praised President Hassan for fulfilling her promises, saying her track record in the region gave voters every reason to endorse her re-election bid.

“There is no doubt the President has transformed Ruvuma. The development projects promised have been implemented, and their impact is clearly visible,” he said.

CCM secretary general Dr Asha-Rose Migiro emphasised Nakapanya’s importance as a fertile hub for cashew and sesame, crops of national and international significance.

“Given what the President has accomplished in agricultural growth and the socio-economic transformation of the country, there is every reason to entrust her with the mandate to lead until 2030,” she said
