35 youth teams to compete in 2024 Chem Chem Cup

Babati. A total of 35 teams are set to feature in the 2024 Chem Chem Cup, taking place in the Manyara Region.

The 10th edition of the tournament was launched by Mbulu District Commissioner, Veronica Kessy, on behalf of Manyara Regional Commissioner, Queen Sendiga.

Kessy praised the Chem Chem Foundation, which has invested in tourism and conservation in Babati District, for promoting sports and conservation efforts in the Manyara Region.

"We commend Chem Chem for organizing this tournament annually, which aims to promote environmental conservation and combat poaching," said Kessy.

She added that the government appreciates Chem Chem's contribution to conservation efforts and urged the residents of Babati District to continue participating in conservation activities, noting the significant benefits they bring.

Chem Chem’s General Manager, Clever Zulu, said they have spent Sh78 million to facilitate the tournament. Zulu noted that, aside from promoting the development of sports, they are also proud to raise awareness about conservation issues under the theme "Protect the Environment, Save the Giraffe."

He added that hundreds of residents from 10 villages that form the Burunge Wildlife Management Area are attending the tournament.

 The tournament’s secretary, John Bura, said that 35 teams will participate in the competition, including 18 senior football teams, nine youth teams (under 18), and eight women's teams.

He noted that the tournament winner will receive Sh2.5 million and a trophy, while the runner-up will receive Sh1.5 million, and the third-place team will get Sh1 million. In the women's category, the winner will receive Sh1.5 million, the runner-up Sh1 million, and the third place Sh500, 000.
