Aziz Ki wins MVP award in NBC Premier League, sweeps multiple honors as Yanga dominate

Dar es Salaam. Young Africans (Yanga) attacking midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki has won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the Mainland Tanzania NBC Premier League for the 2023/2024 season.

In addition to being named the best player of the year, Aziz Ki won three other categories at the awards night held at the Super Dome in Masaki on August 1, 2024.

He received the golden boot award for top scoring, netting 21 goals and surpassing close challenger Feisal “Fei Toto” Salum of Azam FC, who scored 19 goals.

Aziz Ki was also honored as the best midfielder in the NBC Premier League and the best player of the CRDB Federation Cup. Fei Toto was named the best player of the CRDB Federation Cup.

This marks a record achievement for the Burkinabe attacking midfielder, who joined Yanga and played for the Jangwani Street giants for the first time in the 2022/2023 season.

Aziz Ki received his MVP award from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Culture, Gerson Msigwa, who was accompanied by Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) president Wallace Karia and National Bank of Commerce (NBC) Chief Financial Officer Waziri Barnabas.

“I am very happy to win the award. This is for the team players, fans, members, and leadership as well,” said an overjoyed Aziz Ki, who was accompanied by model Hamisa Mobeto on stage.

“I call on Yanga fans to turn out and support us in all competition matches so that we can continue to gain confidence and shine in all competitions,” he added.

The award night was also dominated by Yanga, with its defender Ibrahim “Bacca” Hamad named the best defender in the NBC Premier League.

Yanga players Yao Kouassi, Dickson Job, Ibrahim “Bacca” Hamad, Mudathir Yahya, and Maxi Nzengeli were named in the NBC Premier League first eleven, along with Kipre Junior, Fei Toto (Azam FC), Waziri Junior (KMC), Mohamed “Tshabalala” Hussein (Simba), and goalkeeper Ley Matampi of Coastal Union of Tanga.

Yanga’s Clement Mzize won the golden boot award for the top scorer in the CRDB Federation Cup, while goalkeeper Djigui Diara won the best CRDB Federation Cup award, and Miguel Gamondi was named the best coach in the NBC Premier League.

The best goalkeeper award in the NBC Premier League went to Ley Matambi of Coastal Union, who triumphed over Ayoub Lakred of Simba and Yanga’s Diarra.

Azam FC's Kipre Junior won the best goal of the season, while Mtibwa Sugar were named the most disciplined team, beating Singida Black Stars (Ihefu) and Kagera Sugar.

The award night also recognized Mbwana Samata and Aisha Masaka as the best players playing abroad, while Aisha Mnunka of Simba was named the top scorer in the women's league after scoring 20 goals.

In the women's league, the best goalkeeper award went to Caroline Rufo of Simba Queens, while her coach Juma Mgunda was named the best.

Bunda Queens won the most disciplined team award while Ester Maseke of Bunda Queens was named the best young player in the women's league, and Aisha Mnunka won the best player award in the women's league.

The event saw Ayoub Masoud winning the best player award in the First League, Jaruph Juma won the best player award in beach soccer, and Shomari Raheem was named the best young player in the NBC League.

The football gala night also named Ahmed Arajiga as the best referee in the NBC Premier League, while Amina Kyando won the award in the women's league.

The best assistant referee award in the NBC Premier League went to Mohamed Mkono, while Zawadi Yusuph won in the women's premiership.

Hamis Kitila won the best match commissioner award in the NBC League, Juma Bomba received an honorary award in women's football, National Sports Council (NSC) chairman Leodger Tenga was given an honorary award in football, and the late Said El Maary was awarded the TFF’s president award.
