Celebrations as Yanga officially crowned the 2023/2024 Tanzania Mainland Premier League champions

Dar es Salaam. Young Africans (Yanga) have been officially crowned the 2023/2024 Tanzania Mainland Premier League winners for the 30th time in their history in a grand ceremony held Saturday on May 25, 2024 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The atmosphere was electric as the celebrations were accompanied by a myriad of entertainments, all adding to the excitement following Yanga’s commanding 3-0 victory over Tabora United at the venue.

Yanga's goals were netted by Joseph Guede, Maxi Nzengeli, and Stephane Aziz Ki, each contributing to the team's impressive victory.

With the victory, Yanga have amassed a total of 77 points from 29 matches, a remarkable achievement that underscored their superiority in the league.

The win was also a culmination of their consistent performance throughout the season, reflecting their dominance in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League.

The Minister of State in the President's Office [Special Assignments], George Mkuchika, Tanzania Football Federation president Wallace Karia and National Bank of Commerce Board Chairman Elirehema Doriye handed over the trophy to Yanga captain Bakari Mwamnyeto.

The stadium was ablaze with excitement as fans, adorned in the vibrant yellow and green colors of Yanga, sang and danced in jubilant celebration of their team's outstanding performance.

The celebration at the stadium was a spectacle to behold, with fans erupting in cheers, waving flags, and chanting songs of victory.

Meanwhile, the players and coaching staff embraced one another, their unity and hard work throughout the season finally rewarded with this momentous triumph.

The 30th title is a significant milestone in Yanga's history, reaffirming their status as one of the giants of Tanzanian football.

Yanga head coach Miguel Gamondi commended his players for the hard work to win the historic title.

“The success has come from a strong and committed leadership. My players also did their job well by winning the title for three consecutive seasons.

“We deserve to celebrate despite having some task ahead to accomplish in the CRDB Federation Cup against Azam FC on June 2 at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar,” said Gamondi.

Skipper Mwamnyeto expressed his satisfaction at achieving their league season target despite facing another tough assignment in the CRDB Federation Cup.

He reiterated their aim to clinch victory in the cup, just as they had done in the past two seasons.

"It was not an easy season, but we gave our all to secure the title. Now, we are celebrating the 'fruits' of our efforts," remarked Mwamnyeto, reflecting on their hard-earned success.
