Simba, Azam FC in close battle for CAF Champions League slot as Coastal make it to CAF Confederation Cup

Dar es Salaam. Coastal Union have secured a spot for the next season's CAF Confederation Cup after drawing with JKT Tanzania at the Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga on May 25, 2024.
The result means Coastal Union have so far collected 42 points, which cannot be surpassed by KMC, who were chasing them with 36 points. KMC will only reach 39 points, if they win their remaining matches.
KMC had the potential to reach 42 points before, but the May 25, 2024, defeat by Simba dashed their hopes, leaving them in the fourth position.
KMC's result have made it easier for Coastal Union to secure a ticket to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The team to join them in the competition will be either Azam FC or Simba, depending on the results of their last matches.

That competition was later merged with the CAF Cup to form the CAF Confederation Cup in 2004.
Coastal Union become the sixth team to secure a CAF ticket while finishing fourth after KMC, Namungo, Biashara United, Geita Gold, and Singida Fountain Gate.
Tanzania are allocated four slots in the CAF competitions due to their rankings. Tanzania have so far collected 71 points and are ranked sixth.
Egypt are ranked first with 179 points, Morocco second with 148 points, and Algeria third with 119 points. South Africa are fourth with 106 points, Tunisia fifth, Tanzania sixth (71 points) and DR Congo seventh with 54 points.
Also, on the list are Angola eighth (51.5 points), Sudan ninth (37 points), Libya tenth (35 points), Ivory Coast eleventh (30.5 points), and Nigeria twelfth with 25 points.
Yanga are the Tanzania Mainland Premier League champions and have already secured a CAF Champions League slot.
The task ahead is for Azam FC and Simba, both with 63 points, battling for the remaining CAF Champions League slot.
The teams are differentiated by goal difference averages. Azam FC have scored 61 goals and have conceded 21 while Simba have so far scored 57 goals and conceded 25.
