It is a defining moment for Yanga and Azam
Dar es Salaam. Azam Football Club today host Young Africans (Yanga) at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in one of the three NBC Premier league games to be played at three different venues.
As Azam FC meet Yanga at 8.15pm, other matches set for today will see Ruvu Shooting facing Tanzania Prisons at 4pm as Kagera Sugar take on Geita Gold FC at 6.15pm.
However, all eyes and ears will likely be directed at the Azam FC-Yanga encounter.
Azam FC, who are placed third with 37 points from 17 matches, will target victory in order to bolster their hold on second position of the league standings, which is now held by Simba with 38 points.
Yanga, who have so far collected 44 points from 17 matches, will also target victory in the encounter in order to widen the point gap against other teams in the league.
The matches are crucial for all the six teams in the league, which is now in the second round. It is a match that will show the league trend, despite big guns dominating top positions.
In the first leg, the two teams recorded a 2-2 draw that made Yanga continue overshadowing Azam FC in the league record. Out of 30 matches, Yanga have managed to win 11 games against nine of Azam FC and other nine ended in a draw.
Yanga assistant coach Cedric Kaze said they are taking the encounter seriously and their main target is to win the tie.
“We have trained well ahead of the encounter, and believe we will make the team’s fans happy. My players had a good display of playing football in previous matches and are also ready for the encounter,” said Kaze.
Azam FC head coach Kally Ongalla said his players are in high morale ahead of the match and they are determined to get a result out of the highly billed contest .
“I am happy that we have players who are totally committed, and who have made us proud so far. They very well know the task ahead; we will do our best,”said Ongalla
