Kaunga wins Dar Gymkhana Monthly Mug tourney trophy

Dar es Salaam. Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club player Webster Kaunga beat over 70 golfers to win the Monthly Mug golf tournament.

 Kaunga claimed the trophy after overcoming the likes of Deo Chuwa and Joram Ocholla, who finished second and third in the exciting 18-hole tournament.

Playing off a handicap of nine, Kaunga faced strong opposition from other golfers to win by a shot in the event sponsored by Farmer’s Choice through Bright Choice Limited

 . “It was a tough event as many golfers in division A also targeted the silverware. I am happy to win June’s Mug, and I thank the organizers and sponsors,” said Kaunga, who is the Chief Commercial Officer at Akiba Commercial Bank.

 He played well to return 72 net strokes.

“I had to be very keen in the tournament due to the fact that Chuwa was toe to toe with me. Basically, the tournament was good with lots of excitement,” he said.

 According to the scorecard, Chuwa recorded 73 net strokes to finish second, while Ocholla won on countback after collecting 75 strokes.

 In Division B, Kausar Jeraj emerged at the top after collecting 70 strokes, followed by Shivaal Naicker with 75, and Arshid Esmail in third with 75 strokes.

 In Division C, Rabin Bista emerged at the top with 70 strokes, followed by Ally Hazam with 73, and Kingslei Li in third with 78 net strokes.

 The battle for the ladies' silver division title was also tough, with Elly Kitaly claiming the division’s top honor with 72 strokes, followed by Fatema Dewji with 73, and Ayne Magombe in third with 74 strokes.

 In the junior category, Ginacarlo Mazzani won top honor.

 In the men's longest drive, Clcer Serumaga won the top prize, while in the women's category, Vicky Elias won the title. Also in the scoresheet were Abid Omaey, who won nearest to the pin in the men's category, and Anitha Siwale, who won in the ladies' category.

Speaking during the prize presentation, Bright Choice Limited’s Hotel and Catering Manager, Caroline Maimu, said they decided to support the event with the aim of developing the game.

 “We are happy to be part and parcel of the game and contribute to the development of the game. We will continue to support the Gymkhana Club’s golf activities in the future,” said Maimu.
