  • CAF’s Technical and Infrastructure experts have advised that more time is needed to ensure everything meets the required standards for a successful championship.

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced the postponement of the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) to August 2025.

The tournament is set to be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

While acknowledging significant progress in constructing and upgrading stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure, CAF stated that additional time is needed to ensure the facilities meet the required standards for hosting the tournament.

CAF’s Technical and Infrastructure experts in the three host countries recommended the extension to allow for further upgrades and preparations to guarantee a successful event.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe commended the presidents of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda for their efforts. "I am confident that the stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure will meet the requisite CAF standards to host a very successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship in August 2025," he said.

Meanwhile, CAF has confirmed that the CHAN 2024 draw will take place in Nairobi on Wednesday, 15 January 2025.
