Dar es Salaam. The African football governing body (CAF) technical staff will on Friday conduct the final inspection of venues for the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The CHAN 2025 finals, a premier competition for locally-based players, will take place from February 1 to 28 across three East African nations: Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, who also serves as the Government Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, during an interview with The Citizen on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

Msigwa confirmed that Tanzania’s venues, including the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and the New Amaan Sports Complex, along with training fields, are ready to host the teams scheduled to play in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar.

“We are ready to host the tournament. The CAF delegation will be in Tanzania to conduct the final inspections. Venues such as the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana, the Law School of Tanzania, and Major Isamuhyo are also prepared to host training sessions for all teams in Tanzania,” said Msigwa.

With the tournament fast approaching, the readiness of these facilities marks a significant milestone in Tanzania’s preparations to host this prestigious continental competition.

The completion of training venues ensures that all competing teams will have access to world-class facilities, contributing to the tournament’s smooth operation.

Further, Msigwa highlighted the government’s commitment to ensure that sports stakeholders are well-informed about the opportunities available within the sports industry.

This initiative aims to encourage greater investment and the involvement of various individuals and organisations in sports development.

Meanwhile, the draw for the tournament will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, on January 15 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

According to the tournament’s procedures, host nations Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda will each occupy a separate pot. Pot 1 will include Morocco and Senegal, while Pot 2 will feature Guinea, Zambia, Madagascar, Rwanda, and Sudan.

Pot 3 will consist of Mauritania, Niger, Congo, Angola, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, the Central African Republic, and DR Congo.

The CHAN 2025 finals are set to bring together the best locally-based talent from across Africa, providing a platform for players to showcase their skills on a continental stage.

As one of the host nations, Tanzania is poised to play a key role in ensuring the success of the tournament while demonstrating its capacity to host international sporting events.
