Lugalo lady golfer tops Tanzania Order of Merit

Dar es Salaam. Lugalo Club golfer Vicky Elias has ascended to the top of the country's Order of Merit, having accumulated 40 points.

According to a statement issued by the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU), Elias secured 13 points in the Lugalo Golf Club Ladies Tournament, then clinched 12 points in the Dar es Salaam Ladies Open before winning 15 points in the Tanzania Ladies Open.

The golfer also contributed to Tanzania’s national golf team's victory in the East and Central Africa Challenge Trophy (ECAACT) held in November at the Kigali Golf Resort and Villas in Rwanda.

Records indicate that Arusha Gymkhana Club golfer Neema Olomi held the second position with 39 points after emerging victorious in the Lugalo Open to earn 15 points. She also scored 14 and 10 points in the Dar es Salaam Ladies Open and the Tanzania Open respectively.

Olomi, like Vicky, was a member of Tanzania’s national golf team that triumphed in the ECAACT held in Kigali, Rwanda.

Renowned golfer Hawa Wacheche claimed the third position with 38 points after notching 14 points in the Lugalo Ladies Open, 13 points in the Dar Ladies event, and 10 points in the Tanzania Ladies Open.

She was also part of Tanzania’s national golf team that clinched the ECAACT trophy.

Madina Iddi, another top golfer in the country, sits fourth with 29 points after competing in only two events—the Dar es Salaam Open of which she was the winner by collecting 15 points, and the Tanzania Open in which she held the second position after collecting 14 points.

Iddi was also part of Tanzania’s national golf team that won the ECAACT trophy.

Also, on the list are Khadija Suleiman, who has held the fifth position with 17 points; Amina Khamis is sixth with 16 points; Chiku Elias is seventh with 15 points; Ayne Magombe is in the seventh position with 14 points and Loveness Frank holds the eighth position with 10 points.

TLGU President Queen Siraki commended the golfers for their outstanding performances this year and urged them to strive for excellence in the coming year, both domestically and internationally.

Siraki expressed that they anticipate hosting numerous domestic competitions and enabling lady golfers to feature in Royal and Ancient ( R& A) competitions, aiming to secure inclusion in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

Currently, Madina is ranked 2,417 with an accumulation of 322.7885 points, while Vicky is closely behind, holding the 2,938th position with 115.7042 points in a global field of 3,032 lady golfers.
