Dar es Salaam. After her triumphant performance at the 2024 Uganda Golf Club Ladies Open in Kitante, Uganda, Tanzania’s top golfer, Madina Iddi, has set her sights on securing a third title on foreign soil.

Madina’s next challenge is the Uganda Open Golf Championship, a prestigious 54-hole Strokeplay event scheduled to tee off tomorrow and end  on August 24 at the Entebbe Club golf course.

Madina recently demonstrated her golfing prowess by carding a gross score of 230 (78, 76, 76) over three days of intense competition.

The tournament attracted 24 top-level female golfers and numerous subsidiary entries of both men and senior players.

In a stunning display of skill, Madina outplayed Uganda's leading golfer, Peace Kabasweka, who finished in second place with a score of 235 (80, 78, 77).

Meron Kyomugusha came in third, posting a score of 237 (82, 79, 76). Following her victory, Madina chose not to return home but to remain in Kampala, focused on her upcoming challenge.

“After winning the Uganda Ladies Open, I decided to stay here in Kampala instead of returning home because I have another tough assignment at the Uganda Open Golf Championship.

I expect it to be a challenging event, as I know Ugandan lady golfers and others from foreign countries are eager to win the silverware.

My goal is to achieve the same,” Madina said in a phone interview. The champion, who currently plays off a handicap of 1.9, has had a remarkable year, having also won the Zambian Ladies Open in Lusaka.

She is determined to add another title to her collection with a strong performance at the Uganda Open.

Her confidence is bolstered by her recent success, but she remains aware of the tough competition ahead.

Defending champion Peace Kabasweka, who has already announced her intention of retaining the trophy, will be among the key contenders.

Kabasweka’s familiarity with the course and her desire to defend her title will make her a formidable opponent in the upcoming event.

As Madina prepares for this challenging competition, the golfing community will be keenly watching to see if she can continue her winning streak and a another title back to Tanzania.

The Uganda Open Golf Championship promises to be an exciting and closely contested event, with top golfers from across the region vying for the coveted trophy.

Madina’s performance in the coming days will not only contribute to her personal accolades, but also enhance Tanzania’s reputation in the regional golfing scene.

All eyes ears will likely be directed at Entebbe as the tournament unfolds.
