Simba beat Kagera to close the gap at the top

Dar es Salaam. The Vodacom Premier Defending champions Simba on Wednesday beat Kagera Sugar 2-0 at the Uhuru Stadium to close the gap at the top.

The victory means Simba has now collected 19 points after playing nine games.

The Champions are four points behind the league leaders Young Africans (Yanga) who have collected 23 points and three points against the second placed Azam FC with 22 points.

Simba goals were scored by John Bocco through from the spot in the 42nd and Saidi Ndemla in the doubled the advantage in the 45th minute.

The encounter also saw the return of the team striker Chris Mugalu who was injured before the team played Tanzania Prisons at Mandela Stadium in Sumbawanga.

Mugalu is among the team’s top scorer with three goals to his credit.

“We faced strong opposition from Kagera Sugar despite our victory. Our focus is now to Saturday encounter against Yanga, it will be tough match, but we call our fans to turn up and give us support, ,” said defender Shomari Kapombe.

Kagera Sugar head coach Mecky Maxime said his players played below standard and made many mistakes that helped Simba to win the encounter.

“We were not on our top form in the match, we played against Mtibwa Sugar four days ago and later travel from Kagera to Dar es Salaam, my players were exhausted due to long trip,” said Maxime.

In another encounter, Namungo FC drew 2-2 against JKT Tanzania at the Majaliwa Stadium in Lindi.

Namungo FC goals were scored by Hashim Manyanya in the first minute before JKT Tanzania equalized in the fifth through Adam Adam who later scored the second goal in the 23rd minute.

Namungo FC equalized through Bigirimana Blaise in the 45th.

In Shinyanga, Mwadui FC drew 1-1 against Ruvu Shooting at the Mwadui Complex.
