Dar es Salaam. Simba's board chairman, Salim Abdallah, famously known as Try Again, has resigned from his post.

Salim announced his resignation today, June 11, 2024, and has requested the former chairman of the board of directors, Mohammed “Mo” Dewji, to take over the position.

Remaining as a board member, Salim made this decision after serving as one of the club's leaders for seven years.

“I have asked Mohammed “Mo” Dewji to become the board chairman, if he accepts my request. I will remain a team member. Despite my seven-year tenure as a leader of Simba, I believe it’s time to step down and let others take the helm. I will continue to provide support as a member of Simba,” said Salim.

"While Simba performs well in CAF competitions, their performance in the local league is lacking. We have observed this inconsistency, and the leadership needs to address it.

He mentioned that player recruitment over the past three years has been a gamble, resulting in the team's underperformance and disappointing fans.

"Recruitment carries inherent risks. We have recruited numerous players in the past; while some like Aubin Kramo encountered problems, others have performed well. Players like Jobe and Fredy need time to adapt to their new environments,” he said.

He also noted that simply recruiting many players doesn't guarantee success, citing Simba's own struggles and limited achievements.

“When I assumed the chairmanship of Simba, the club faced significant challenges, with minimal infrastructure and resources. Now, with over 60 staff members and improved international recognition, we have come a long way.

I joined Simba during tumultuous times. Mo Dewji and I were contributing significant funds to sustain the club.

However, under Mo Dewji's leadership, we seem to have regressed. Nevertheless, Simba stands as a model for other clubs, and we have worked tirelessly to elevate its status."
