Teams urged to feature in the Standard Chartered Cup

Dar es Salaam. Standard Chartered Bank-Tanzania Limited has opened the door to its clients to register their teams in order to compete in the third edition of its Standard Chartered Cup which will be held on June 23 in the city.
The tournament will feature 32 teams and the winner will compete in the international competition to be held in Anfield Stadium in Liverpool, England.
Standard Chartered Bank -Tanzania chief executive officer Sanjay Rughani said yesterday that they were now registering the teams ahead of the event. The deadline is June 15. Liverpool’s legend Sami Hyypia will grace the tournament.
“I call upon all interested bank’s clients to confirm by the date. You need to register seven players who will feature in the five aside competition. It is a 10 minutes tournament hinged on the Bank’s Liverpool FC sponsorship and it is running for the third time in Tanzania having successfully been launched in 2015,” said Rughani.
The Standard Chartered Group is the main sponsor of the Liverpool Football Club from 2010 to 2018 / 2019. As part of its partnership with the Liverpool Club, the Bank organises the Standard Chartered Cup that provides the Bank’s key markets in Asia, Africa and Middle East, with a platform to actively engage football fans and also help them donate to charity in order to develop football.
Now in its seventh year, the Standard Chartered Trophy tournament has grown from strength to strength, with winners from all over the world, including Kenya (2016), South Korea (2015), Vietnam (2014), Thailand (2013) and Singapore (2012).
Last year the Bank held the Standard Chartered Trophy competition which comprised of both the local and East Africa Region tournaments. The latter brought together winning teams from Kenya and Uganda at a fiercely fought competition which was held in Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s Azania – Mikoani Traders team won the regional tournament and went to compete in the finals at Anfield.
