Simba reclaim top spot, outplace Yanga with convincing victory

Dar es Salaam. Football giants Simba have regained the top position in the Mainland Premier League today, February 11, 2025, following a 3-0 victory over Tanzania Prisons at the KMC Complex.

Goals from Jean Ahoua, Elie Mpanzu, and Ladaki Chasambi were enough for the Msimbazi Street boys to reclaim the league’s top spot, leapfrogging their traditional rivals and the defending champions, Young Africans (Yanga).

Simba have now collected 47 points from 18 matches, while Yanga sit second with 46 points from the same number of games.

Simba started the match on a high note, creating multiple clear scoring chances before Ahoua broke the deadlock in the 29th minute with a well-placed finish following a precise pass from Shomari Kapombe.

The goal boosted Simba’s momentum, leading to their second strike in the 44th minute. Mpanzu found the back of the net after receiving a well-timed pass from Leonel Ateba.

Just before halftime, in the 45+1 minute, Chasambi extended Simba’s lead to 3-0, capitalizing on another assist from Kapombe.

Tanzania Prisons struggled to make a serious attacking attempt throughout the match, both in the first and second halves.

The army side remain in 14th place with 17 points from 18 matches, facing a tough battle to escape the relegation zone.

Simba’s head coach, Fadlu Davids, praised his players for their dominant performance and expressed confidence in their ability to maintain their strong form.

“My players put on a great show in this match, and I am confident they will continue to deliver impressive results as the league progresses,” said Davids.

On the other hand, Tanzania Prisons head coach Aman Josiah attributed the defeat to costly mistakes made by his players, which allowed Simba to score easy goals in the first half.

“We were punished for the mistakes my players made. This result is disappointing, but we’ll improve and come back stronger after the international break,” said Josiah.

With this result, Simba have put themselves in a commanding position as they continue their battle for the Mainland Premier League title.

Meanwhile, Tanzania Prisons must regroup and fight for crucial points in the remaining fixtures to avoid relegation.
