Yanga drop points against JKT Tanzania

What you need to know:

  • The result marks a challenging start for Yanga’s new head coach, Miloud Hamdi, who began his tenure at Jangwani with just one point.

Dar es Salaam. The defending champions, Young Africans (Yanga), had their mission to widen the points gap against Simba halted today, February 10, 2025, following a goalless draw against JKT Tanzania at Major General Isamuhyo Ground.

Despite the result, Yanga remain at the top of the league standings with 46 points from 18 matches.

The result marks a challenging start for Yanga’s new head coach, Miloud Hamdi, who began his tenure at Jangwani with just one point.

However, the Jangwani Street giants could drop to second place today if Simba, who currently sit in second place with 44 points from 17 matches, win against Tanzania Prisons at the KMC Complex.

JKT Tanzania, on the other hand, remain in ninth place with 20 points from 18 matches. Yanga dominated the match from the start but missed several scoring opportunities.

The team’s striking force, led by Clement Mzize and Prince Dube, made several attempts, but JKT Tanzania’s defense, marshaled by captain Edson Katanga and Wilson Nangu, along with goalkeeper Yakubu Suleiman, successfully cleared all dangerous balls.

Speaking after the match, Yanga head coach Miloud Hamdi praised his players for their fighting spirit despite the draw.

“It was not an easy match, as JKT Tanzania’s players opted to defend throughout. We are taking the result as a challenge and will prepare for the next match,” said Hamdi.

JKT Tanzania’s head coach, Hamad Ally, commended his players for their solid performance. “We didn’t have enough time to prepare for this match, having played against Coastal Union in Arusha on February 7.

We traveled the next day and only had one day of training before the match. We were aware of Yanga’s offensive strength, and we managed to contain them as they relied on wingers to attack.

“It’s not the result we wanted, as we were targeting either three points or at least one. We’ll go back to the drawing board ahead of our upcoming matches,” said Hamad.

In other matches, KenGold FC recorded a 2-0 win over Fountain Gate FC at the Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.

KenGold’s goals were scored by Seleman Rashid in the 33rd minute from the penalty spot and Obrey Chirwa in the 88th minute. At the KMC Complex, KMC recorded a 2-0 victory against Singida Black Stars.
