Dodoma. Young Africans (Yanga) maintained their supremacy over Dodoma Jiji FC today, April 10, 2024, with a 2-0 victory at the Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma in the CRDB Federation Cup.

The two teams have met eight times, seven in the Mainland Tanzania Premier League where Yanga won six times with one draw, and once in the Federation Cup, where the Jangwani Street giants emerged victorious.

Yanga, the defending champions of the competition, now join the seven other teams that have qualified for the quarterfinals.

Yanga celebrated their first goal, which was scored by Dodoma Jiji FC captain Agustino Msata, who accidentally scored an own goal in the third minute. Msata attempted to clear a cross from Augustine Okrah from the right flank but ended up beating his own goalkeeper, Daniel Mgole.

The central zone side had the chance to level the score in the 51st minute with a penalty, but Idd Kipwagile missed after shooting wide.

The Tanga region-based referee, Omari Mdoe, awarded Dodoma Jiji FC a penalty after Yanga's Mudathir Yahya fouled Christian Ziga in the danger zone.

Yanga's second goal was scored by Clement Mzize in the 65th minute with a powerful shot just outside the danger zone following mistakes made by Dodoma Jiji FC's midfielder, Salmin Hoza.

Yanga also created several clear scoring chances but missed them. The team's Ghanaian import, Okrah, missed a chance by shooting wide, while Mzize and Stephane Aziz KI also missed opportunities.

In the second half, Dodoma Jiji FC played well and managed to put pressure on Yanga in the danger zone, but their players lacked concentration when attempting to score.

Yanga's striker Mzize acknowledged facing strong opposition from Dodoma Jiji FC players in the match.

"We fought hard and won against strong opposition. We just came from an international assignment and faced a tough match against Mamelodi Sundowns," said Mzize, who was named man of the match and received Sh500,000 from the tournament's main sponsor, CRDB Bank.

Dodoma Jiji FC captain Agustino Msata admitted to making mistakes that allowed Yanga to secure the win.

"Our lack of focus cost us the match today. Yanga capitalized on our errors and came out victorious. It's all part of the game," said Msata.
