Njombe. Former Prime Minister Frederick Sumaye has criticised President Jakaya Kikwete’s cabinet, saying no single minister has the credibility and competence for re-election.
Mr Sumaye, who recently decamped to the opposition, said, ruling CCM members vying for different posts need to tell what their party had done to Tanzania in the past 10 years rather than giving new promises.
He was campaigning for the main opposition, Chadema, presidential candidate, Mr Edward Lowassa, who is backed by the Ukawa coaltion at KKKT grounds here on Tuesday evening.
Mr Sumaye said, CCM’s presidential candidate, Dr John Magufuli, lacked the moral authority to tell Tanzanians he will eradicate poverty if elected because he has failed to do so for the past 10 years when serving as minister in Kikwete’s government.
Mr Sumaye, who served as Prime Minister for ten years under retired President Benjamin Mkapa, said the Controller and Auditor General (CAG)’s report for 2013/2014 shows that the ministry of Works which falls under Magufuli’s docket failed to account for Sh210 billion allocated for various projects. “Magufuli says he hates corruption and will stem the vice if elected, but where was he for the past ten years? He does not have the moral authority to make such pledges,” he said.
Mr Sumaye said, even the CCM secretary general, Mr Abdulrahaman Kinana, has been criticising ministers in his own government for under performance.
