Rufiji. Chadema’s presidential running mate Juma Duni said yesterday that the Ukawa led government will put in place a programme through which senior citizens will receive better services, especially in health matters.
Mr Duni said the programme shall function such that the elderly will be provided with cards that would enable them to access basic services anywhere in the country.
“I want to assure you that our government will make sure that all senior citizens receive very good care so that they will enjoy life after serving this country with dedication,” he said.
He said time for making political change has come calling for the residents to choose opposition parties for their better life.
He said this as he addressed residents of Muhoro Village in Rufiji District in the Coast Region yesterday.
The residents, for their part, said they want the next government to improve health service in the area.
Mzee Yusuf Kigumi (73) said he was determined to seek political change ahead of the October 25 General Election.
“We need change not that opposition parties will end our challenges within a short period of time but to experiment them and see how they would run things,” he said.
He said the way they have been conductin life in their area has not changed since during the colonial days.
Mr Kigumi said health care was a huge problem in the area.
“It’s as if we don’t belong to this country. No one cares for us. It’s over 50 years since independence,” he lamented.
According to him, there was one health facility but it always lacked medicine and other health equipment. He said even expecting mothers are supposed to carry their own materials to help them deliver apart from being charged Sh5,000.
He told The Citizen that people had to travel far in search for proper medical care.
In her remarks, CUF secretary for women’s wing, Ms Fatuma Kalembo, said if elected Ukawa government will ensure free medical services to women, children and the elderly.
She called upon women to wake up and refrain from being bribed by the ruling party which she said has been offering them free clothes and uniforms especially during election time but abandoning them thereafter.
