Basketball: Kenya outclasses Tanzania

In basketball, Kenya overwhelmed Tanzania in a one-sided affair, winning 67-38 at the Makupa Sports Club in Mombasa. Kenya’s Senator David Wakoli from Bungoma County led with an impressive 20 points, while Tanzania’s Benit contributed 17 points.

Tanzania’s captain, Priscus Tarimo from Moshi Mjini constituency, acknowledged Kenya’s formidable preparation. “The game was good, and we received a strong challenge from Kenya. They were well-prepared,” said Tarimo.

Despite the loss, the Tanzanian team remains hopeful of securing gold. “We are optimistic and looking forward to the upcoming matches,” added Tarimo.

Tanzania’s coach, Hallelujah Havalambi, expressed disappointment but praised Kenya's performance.

“We expected to win, but unfortunately, we lost. Kenya was excellent in their transition, winning rebounds and responding well to our first breaks. The coastal weather was challenging, but we will go back to the drawing board to improve and bounce back in the next game,” Havalambi stated

EAC Games continue

The games, sponsored by Mchezo Limited, will conclude on December 17.

Over 500 legislators from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Somalia, and the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) are participating in various sports.

Mercy Mugao, Business Development Manager for Mchezo Limited, praised the legislators’ passion and urged them to develop policies promoting sports growth in the region.

“These games show how sports can bring us together, but we need policies to create employment and develop talent for the millions of youth in our region,” said Mugao.
