Yanga open eight point gap against Simba in VPL

Arusha. Young Africans (Yanga) yesterday beat Dodoma Jiji FC 3-1 ’in the Mainland Premier League match to open an eight point gap against their traditional rivals, Simba.

The encounter that was held at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium saw Yanga’s new signing Burundian striker Saido Ntibazonkiza make his debut in the top flight with a bang.

Ntibazonkiza scored the second goal in 69th through a free kick just outside the danger zone after replacing Ghanaian striker Michael Sarpong in 45th.

Dodoma Jiji FC defenders had to play hard to stop the Burundian striker, whom they fouled. Yanga were behind just four minutes of the game when Seif Karie scored following mistakes made by Yanga’s goalkeeper Metacha Mnata and defenders.

Yanga equalized in 27th through Lamine Moro, who scored his fifth goal and became the only defender to score many goals in the league. Moro scored after Dodoma Jiji FC’s defenders failed to clear his free kick as the Ghanaian defender scored from an impossible angle.

Apart from scoring, the Burundian striker made one assist to the team’s defender, Bakari Mwamnyeti, to score the third goal in the 75th minute.

Yanga have so far collected 40 points from 16 matches while Simba are second with 32 points from 14 matches. The Jangwani Street giants have also maintained their unbeaten run in the league, drew four matches and conceded six goals.

The losses to Dofdoma Jiji FC have made them collect 19 points and placed 11th in the league’s standings that show that Azam FC are third with 29 points from 16 league matches.

The other teams in the top five of the league standings are Ruvu Shooting, who have bagged 25 points and Biashara Mara United, who are fifth with 23 points after playing 16 matches.

Also, yesterday Ihefu FC won 1-0 against Kinondoni Municipal Council (KMC) in the premier league match held at the Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya Region. Ihefu FC’s goal was scored by Joseph Kinyozi in the ninth minute.

Mtibwa Sugar also beat JKT Tanzania 1-0 in the league match held at the Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro Region.

Mtibwa Sugar’s goal was scored by Riphat Said in the 42nd minute of the game.

In another game of the league Gwambina FC of Misungwi District in Mwanza Region drew 1-1 in Misungwa against Tanzania Prisons of Mbeya Region.
