Dar es Salaam. A least 100 budding swimmers out of 189 were yesterday scouted in the second edition of the Champion Rise swimming development championships held at the Shaaban Robert Swimming pool in Dar es Salaam Region.

The event was purposely organised to scout talented swimmers, who will later be developed in various clubs for the national team.

At least 189 swimmers featured in the one-day event sponsored by Pepsi, Pinok, Sayona Fruity and individuals.

Clubs featured in the event were Genesis international school, FK blue Marlin swim Club, Champion Rise Swimming Club, Kwanza International School, Sunrays School, Readers rabbit,

The other clubs are Capstone, Tanzania Swimming Club, Latham, High mount view and unattached swimmers from different clubs and schools.

Speaking with The Citizen, Champion Rise’s chief executive officer Amina Mfaume said most swimmers showed great improvements and would be expected to be recruited by various clubs in the city.

Mfaume, who is also Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) technical director, said already Champions Rise have recruited 15 swimmers from the competition and called on other clubs to recruit the remaining.

She said the task ahead is for the swimmers to be trained by qualified coaches and instructors and compete nationally and later globally.

“The event was for swimmers who are yet to compete in any TSA sanctioned swimming competitions. So all the swimmers were beginners competing for the first time in the swimming event, it was very exciting one and we enjoyed,” said Mfaume.

Meanwhile, FK Blue Marlins Swimming Club dominated the first 47 events after collecting 30 gold medals followed by Tanzania Swimming Club that won 11 gold medals while Kwanza, genesis and Champion Rise winning a gold medal each.
